This is an antique gentleman's card table. An English, walnut master gaming table by James Phillips & Sons, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1840.
An exquisite example of early Victorian craftsmanship, with striking figuring
Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Select walnut stocks present fine grain interest
Delightful caramel hues radiate beneath a quality wax polish finish
Rectangular top finished with a distinctive leather medallion to the centre
Rotating through 90 degrees with a firm action, the top extends to present the playing surface
Bordered with fascinating burr walnut, the emerald green baize in superb order
Useful drawer set within the fascia ideal for storing cards or cigars
Drawer front dressed with an inset brass-lined lock — in working order, key present
Maker's roundel to the drawer box for James Phillips & Sons Ltd, Bristol
Striking shaped aprons and bold frieze shoulders decorate the body
Raised upon decorative legs with carved motif and riding smoothly upon brass castors
