Antique Folk Art Jig Doll
A super, rare folk art, antique jig doll in superb condition.
The appearance would suggest that he is of significant age, dating to the early 1800's when they were made and used by ex service men, often injured and unable to work. They would entertain on the street to earn an income.
They were also used within public houses & inn's for entertainment.
This truly is a magnificent little figure, standing at just 13.5 cm in height (not including the base)
He does appear to have had a fixing or pin hole to his back where the jig stick would have been attached.
Additionally his hands appear to have held something at one time so perhaps he performed on a wire etc.
His only restoration appears to be the replacement of one pin to his right hand shoulder.
His joints all move freely, he appears to have had a lot of use, he is however perfectly secure.
He comes with the little base that we have made to display him on. We have simply passed a cotton below his arm and tied him to the post. He will be removed to pack him securely and a new length of cotton will be supplied to re-fix him.
UK Mainland delivery included.
