A really charming pair of Victorian letter scales, signed by the manufacturer, "Halstaff & Hannaford, 228 Regent St., London" they were most probably retailed at Halstaff and Hannaford but likely to have been made by the top notch scale maker, Sampson Mordan & Co.

Of course what makes this set particularly desirable are the two glorious Wedgwood Jasperware plaques, and even better with such a charming an romantic theme each featuring a Cherub or Putti figure.

The complete set of weights including the little topper are marked with the postal rates from 1/2 penny to 4 pennies this would date the piece to c.1860.

Excellent condition. The base measures 6" x 4", the pans spanning 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" tall.
