This is an antique court cabinet. An English, oak sideboard or credenza in Jacobean revival taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.
Impressive cabinet with fine carved details
Displaying a desirable aged patina
Select oak shows fine grain interest with delightful wisps of medullary rays
Rich caramel and russet hues beam beneath the wax polish finish
Upper valance hosts a wide opening drawer, decorated with a scrolled frieze pattern
Pair of acanthus bulb supports with dashing petal carvings to each side
The lower arrangement of four cabinet doors intersected by two wide drawers at the mid-point
Upper doors dressed with a pair of shield lock escutcheons over working locks — keys present
Overall carved appearance and solid proportions key to the Victorian fascination with the Jacobean taste
Pleasingly unusual carved male figure located between the upper cabinet doors
Copious carved panels with shell carvings, foliate patera et al adding further visual interest
Lower drawers and cabinets finished with small, pierced spade-shape pulls and decorative butterfly hinges
