This is an antique correspondence box. An English, aged leather travelling writing case in the manner of Asprey, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.

Appealing Victorian leather writing box, with fascinating colour
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Patination to the quality leather, remnants of the original green tanning visible
Leather interior resplendent in the original green hue

Lid dressed with an inset brass carry handle and gold tooled C.B. monogram
Opens to reveal a tray insert with three compartments
Inset tray removable to access a useful, second storage space

The lid reverse hosts an X-shaped leather document holder
Finished with a polished brass Bramah lock — untested, key absent
Unmarked as such, but the colour and quality redolent of Asprey of London
