A highly decorative silver plated Chafing Dish standing on four very elegant legs terminating in claw feet. The underside has the spirit burner which would have been filled with fuel and a woven wick would have been lit to keep the contents warm (the burner doesn't have a wick) these are invariably used these days as a tureen with hot water in the bottom to keep the contents warm to avoid the danger of using fuel.

This example is top quality with exquisite repousse and engraved decoration to the lid, absolutely stunning. Marked by the highly sought-after silversmith Walker and Hall being Walker and Hall, we are able to date the piece from the letter K to the year 1893, making this a true Victorian example.

As usable today as 120 years ago, it remains in superb condition. The footprint measures 6" x 6", the dish spanning 9 3/4" x 7 1/4" and standing 7" tall to top of handle.
