Antique Arts and Crafts Mahogany Fireside Chair
A very attractive mahogany low fireside chair, dating from the Arts and Crafts period (1880-1920), in the simple but beautiful style typical of the movement. It has a carved central splat and barley twist ends, double side and front stretchers, low back rails and square legs.
This type of chair was produced by Morris & Co and became very popular, as much as works of art as practical, useful chairs. Its short legs and low seat were designed to allow you to sit close to the fire now it would make a lovely bedroom or hallway / landing chair.
This chair is in very good original condition with its original rush seat. There are some marks and signs of use to the wood, but no signs of woodworm, and the seat is strong. There is one old repair at the base of the back, but this is minimally visible and has no movement (see last picture). Please examine the photographs and feel free to ask us any questions, or request more pictures.
Dimensions:
Overall height 83cm, Seat height 33cm.
Width 47cm, Depth 50cm. Please get in touch for further details on any item, including additional photographs or video. You are welcome to view any item by appointment.
Payment via bank transfer, PayPal or cash is welcomed.
