This lovely bisque-head doll dates from c.1910-1920. He has a small impressed cross mark at the top of the back of his head, together with the mould number 201 underneath. He has 'Germany' impressed into the middle of the back of his head and '8' impressed at the bottom of the back of his head. We believe he may have been made by German doll maker Fritz Dressel. He has sleeping eyes, and open mouth with two teeth and painted facial features. He has a five-piece jointed composition body that has been cut in half at some point (possibly at the time of manufacture) to have a mama box inserted. His body is stamped 'Germany' in red on the back and has the date 1921 written on in pencil. He retains what is possibly his original wig, although this is loose. He is wearing vintage underclothes and pantaloons and a vintage blue velvet-type waistcoat and hat. He has more modern shoes.

Condition: Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age. He is overall a little grubby. There is some glue residue around his wig, and some scuffing around his neck. His wig has some loss and thinning. His body has some wear as might be expected, particularly around his hands and joints. We believe him to have been restrung at some point. As is mentioned above his body has been cut in two at some point so that a mama box could be fitted - this is still in working order. His clothing has some age-related wear and discolouration.
