Framed and signed oil on canvas 'Boats at Loggos, Paxos' painted by Anthony Rickards in 1988. A decorative subject with muted colours and in an impressionistic style for which Rickards is best known. This painting was exhibited at the ROI exhibition 1988
and Avon Gallery, Bath 1991.

Biography: Anthony J. Rickards, ROI 1919-1993

After serving in the Royal Navy during the war, Anthony Rickards trained at Hornsey School of Art in London. His initial interest was in etching, but he soon developed a distinctive watercolour style. During the 70's he moved on to painting in oil and almost all his later work is in this medium.

During his life he travelled widely, gaining inspiration for his landscape paintings from his visits to the Middle East, Iceland, Greece, Menorca and Italy. In the 1980s he led painting holidays on the island of Paxos, Greece.

He has exhibited widely and sold his work at numerous private galleries, in Cork Street in London, on many occasions at the Royal Academy Summer Show, the Mall Galleries, The London Sketch Club in Chelsea and Spink and Son.

In 1992 Anthony Rickards was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in recognition of his work.
