Ancient Roman military Bronze Phalera (Ref 5047)
Roman military Bronze Phalera rare artifact from the days of the Roman Empire.
Dating to the 1st - 3nd century AD. A bronze discoid phalera military decoration with raised rim surrounding a male bust modelled in the half-round.
4cm in Diameter x 1.5cm deep.
Bronze objects were ubiquitous in the Roman world, being used by the Roman army, for instance, for both practical and decorative purposes. The phalera is the sculpted disk (usually made of bronze) on the breastplate, which was worn by Roman soldiers as a reward for outstanding contribution, or as a signifier of military rank.
Excellent ancient condition.
All in all a fine collectors display piece.
