An Impressive C.17th Charles II Press Cupboard
An Impressive C.17th Charles II Press Cupboard
Measuring approximately 59" x 68 1/2" x 23"(width, height, depth)
A rare joined oak piece originating from Charles II period, 1660-85.
The upper stage with carved lunette pattern to frieze and quatrefoil and flowerhead to cupboard doors and sides. The central panel with arcaded lozenge decoration.
The cupboard doors, fitted with later iron butterfly hinges, over original shelf with fabulous patina flanked by baluster turned 'marrow leg' columns.
The lower frieze of the upper stage decorated with pretty intertwined flowerheads.
The lower stage with huge storage capacity, the molded cupboard doors with beautiful guilloche / flowerhead decoration and further carved lozenge panels. The sides with large double heart motif over two plain panels.
Further intertwined lunette carving to lower front rail.
Wonderful original boards to back.
Condition report.....Old repairs, historic worm to back and top, feet have been re-tipped.
