An Excellent Quality Set of Four Antique Ship's Armchairs
An Excellent Quality Set of Four Antique Ship's Armchairs by Trollope & Colls.
All four, large sized antique mahogany armchairs are in superb, clean and original condition. In the Hepplewhite style, three of the armchairs have the period seat fabric, one is newly upholstered. Trollope & Colls is stamped to the back leg on each armchair. The company go back to 1778 under Joseph Trollope who was a wall paper hanger. His sons enjoyed Royal Patronage and expanded into interior decoration and then estate agency. Another branch of cabinet makers was set up and the different arms of the company which was also by now include property wwwelopment continued into the 20th century. In 1903 they merged with the builders Colls and Sons. They won contracts with Haarland & Wolf, the builders of the Titanic, to furnish and interior decorate the White Star Line. This set of four antique ships armchairs have a metal loop on the underside of each armchair where they would have been secured to the deck of a ship by chain. Dating from around 1905. In excellent condition.
