A Rare Late Elizabethan Marquetry Livery Cupboard.
A Rare late Elizabethan carved oak marquetry cupboard Circa 1590.
Lavishly carved throughout the cupboard has four turned supports with a triple arcaded and canted top with a central cupboard door above a single large arabesque strap-work draw and a pot board shelf at the bottom.
The ornate inlaid marquetry panels are made from box wood, holy, bog oak and fruit wood, which make up the elaborate flowers and foliage.
The cupboard door opens with a finger push latch, cleverly disguised within the carved arcaded frame work.
There has been a couple of very minor old restorations to the livery cupboard a piece of timber has been replaced at the back of the pot board and there has been a small repair to the back left corner of the top plank. Two of the original oak backboards have been replaced with two larger pine boards - probably in the late 18th century.
These cupboards are rare to find and this particular example is in excellent original condition for its age and has a fantastic rich patina.
Dimensions
Height = 124.5 cm (49.0")
Width = 122 cm (48.0")
Depth = 45 cm (17.7")
