A Pair of Victorian Cast Iron Garden Seats/Benches
A Victorian pair of cast iron garden seats in the Serpent & Twig pattern and dating to circa 1860. These beautiful rustic naturalistic castings are based on the English oak tree and depict branches adorned with oak leaves, acorns and intertwined serpents. The pattern was designed by McDowell, Stevenson & Co of Glasgow, circa 1840 and was later copied by other foundries, most notably by the John Finch Foundry, in Dudley Worcestershire. These particular benches are stamped with a number to the back legs.
In very good structural condition with no signs of repair although one leaf group is missing from one seat, the white gloss paintwork needs minor touching up where some rust spots starting to appear.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos.
