A 19th Century Carved Oak Wingback Reading Chair
A 19th century carved oak-framed wingback reading chair with a generously sized comfy seat. Standing on carved scrolling front legs with a scrolling acanthus leaf carved front rail and a turned H-stretcher joining to square tapering rear legs, all on original brass castors. Each arm has a fitting to the top into which the bronze arm for the book rest may be inserted. The book rest has a ratcheted back so the angle can be adjusted or laid flat and it also rotates on it’s arm so it can be brought to the front or left to the side.
The seat is sprung and stuffed with horse hair and whilst the upholstery has been redone at some point it is worn with pulls and wear to the front and also a tear on the back, the book rest has some lights spots, we will be happy to send extra photos of any of these.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 30in (76cm)
Depth - 35in (89cm)
Height - 39 1/2in (100cm)
Seat - 22in wide x 22in deep x 16in high (56cm x 56cm x 40.5cm)
Book rest - 14 1/2in wide (37cm)
Ref 386 Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee for UK purchases but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
