4 x Mid-Century Silver Plate Goblets, c.1960s/70s
This is a stylish set of four Mid-Century Silver Plate Goblets. The goblets have stepped round bases, knopped stems and flared bowls. They are small wine or large sherry goblets.
The goblets were made in Birmingham by Cavalier Tableware and date to the 1960s/70s. Launched in Birmingham in 1959, Cavalier Tableware was the brand name of Hawker Marris Ltd, a Birmingham firm with roots stretching back to metalworkers George Marris & Co in the 1850s. The firm also produced the Sirram range of camping & picnic accessories. Cavalier were primarily producers of silver plate domestic and tableware operating from premises in Spencer Street at the heart of Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They were initially very successful but began to struggle against the competition from cheaper foreign imports in the 1970s and despite introducing some Sterling Silver products in 1976 they ceased trading around about 1980.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and the barest minimum of superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The goblets stand 15.2cm / 6ins high, are 6.3cm / 2.5ins in diameter and hold 113.6ml / 4floz (UK). The set of four together weighs in at 513.6g / 18.1oz.
The underside of each goblet is stamped Silver Plated, Cavalier and Made in England.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
