Striking mid 19th.c. oval portrait of a gentleman in oil on canvas. Sporting a fine pair of sideburns and very handsomely dressed in a high collared black jacket and necktie with a white silk waistcoat and shirt with gold pin. Good condition with some typical wear and retouching (most obviously to the right hand cheek). Presented unframed on an oval stretcher. With a portion of canvas applied to the rear signed ‘Knywkowski 1843’ (copied as an annotation onto the back of the stretcher) believed to be the artist’s signature.
