A small portrait of a beautiful young woman holding a falcon. The portrait is signed by Sophia Saunders to the left corner, with what looks like Cheltenham in the right. The painting appears to be on porcelain surrounded by moiré silk. The elegantly dressed young woman has the bird seated on her right hand, while stroking its feathers with her left.

Sophie Saunders was a miniaturist who worked in England and New York in the mid 19th century. This is a very accomplished painting, measuring 13 cm x 8 cm. The later frame is 25 cm x 22 cm.
