This is a beautiful 19th century hand coloured woodblock print by Keisai Eisen 1790-1848. Eisen specialised in Bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women). His best works including his okubi-e (large head pictures) are considered to be masterpieces of the Bunsei era 1818-1830. He was also known as Ikida Eisen and wrote under the name of Ippitsuan.
The woodblock is titled Courtesan from the house of Ebiya and depicts a beauty dressing in a fabulous robe and sash.
This is in an attractive smart dark wooden frame that suit it admirably.
The frame measures 53 cms by 43 cms.
