A rather fine, and rather large, English school oil on canvas dating to the early 19th century. The subject of the painted, a seat gentleman, is a rather distinguished fellow with a somewhat prominent nose. He holds a piece of antique jewellery which obviously held some significance for him. The gentleman was clearly a man of wealth and the painting would probably have hung in a rather grand country house. In a period birds eye maple frame which has been very sympathetically restored.

A nice country house piece.
