Circa 1890 a rare obelisk shape and designed, deep hobnail cut crystal Claret Jug with quality silver plated mounts and decorative handle. Unlike a more common square shape, even one with a tapered body, the handle is uniquely positioned to the corner not a flat face.

The body mount is a deep collar with flared rim , a small aperture to the centre of the rim which has a hinged dome cover with a cup and cover style finial. The hinge allows the cover to be self supporting (it doesn't fall back and use the handle for support). the handle is mounted to the collar and is free of any body mount.

Size: overall height 12 inches, base is 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches tapering to 2 1/4 inches at the neck. (unpacked weight 1.08kg).

Condition: All the mounts are fully secure, hinge is working perfectly and there is no damage, the cut crystal is free of any nicks etc., there is minor milky bloom in the base, (to be expected) otherwise the crystal is crisp clean and bright.
