19th Century American Open Armchair
A pretty open armchair, made in America in the mid 19th century. The flat arrow-shaped back splats have a wonderful rake, which gives the chair additional decorative appeal.The turnings of the legs and arms are shaped to simulate bamboo. The chair is made from a semi-hardwood such as beech and would have been originally painted remnants of paint can be seen, but the chair is now a golden natural colour.
