19th 10 Long Malt Shovel Rack In Original Paint Primitive folk antique %%alt5%%
A rare example of a 10 feet long primitive malt shovel rack dating to the mid 19th century. The rack is in its original patinated chocolate brown paint. Originating from a barn in Kent, the malt shovels were used for their part in the beer making process. There are twelve chunky peg on the 113”, or just over ten feet, chamfered-edge board. Each peg protrudes 9 3/4", is 1 3/4" wide and 2 3/4" high. The back is 5" tall and 1.5" deep. In very good untouched condition, the back board retains all but one of the original bolts that held it on the barn wall.

This would now make a fabulous coat rack in a lovely farmhouse kitchen, hallway or may even a restaurant or pub.
