1930s mid-size Record wrist watch unisex midsize wristwatch %%alt5%%
1930s mid-size Record wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement, signed Record, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner cover which also acts as a retainer (hence the retaining screws are not required within the movement).

The watch measures 28mm wide excluding the winding crown and 28mm high excluding the lugs so although originally designed as a man’s watch, it would suit a slimmer wrist. The case is made of “Staybrite rustless steel”. It has general light surface marks but in good condition for a 1930s piece. The back of the watch has a previous owner’s name.

The inside of the screw-on case back has the case maker’s mark for François Borgel. He was a very successful inventor and business man, and his company became one of the most important watch case manufacturers of its time, particularly with regard to waterproof cases. As with any vintage watch, however, we would recommend that it is kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the Record name and swan logo, this version was registered by Record in 1903. The dial is in its original finish with original blued steel hands. There is light marking to the dial but nothing too detrimental.

The watch has a charming vintage leather strap, probably not the original but certainly of a good age.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
