1924 silver Kendal & Dent pocket watch
1924 silver Kendal & Dent pocket watch.
The watch has a Swiss key-wound movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover, and then an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London 1924 with an importer's mark for George Stockwell.
From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
Overall the case is in good condition, just a slight indentation to the back and some surface marking. The engine turned detail is still nice and crisp.
The acrylic lens has a couple of light marks but barely noticeable to the naked eye.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailers of the watch, Kendal & Dent. It is in very nice condition.
Kendal & Dent were very well known watch makers and they also supplied ships' chronometers for the Admiralty. In later years, they bought in Swiss pocket watches for retail, such as the one we have here.
