1920s State pocket watch
1920s State pocket watch.
A vintage 1920s State stem winding pocket watch by Cyma.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely.
Cyma was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Theodore Schwob, in 1862. In 1892 they decided to go into partnership with Frédéric Henri Sandoz, owner of Henri Sandoz et Cie. The Cyma name was officially registered in 1903. Sandoz used the most modern of manufacturing processes and produced very high quality time-pieces, trademarked as Tavannes, Cyma and Cyma Tavannes. Their excellent reputation for quality meant that by 1910, Tavannes / Cyma were one of the largest Swiss watch manufacturers in existence. State, or Stayte, was one of the brand names used by the company.
The watch measures 54mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in good condition with just light surface marking.
The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.
The signed dial looks good to the naked eye, with original blued steel hands. There are a couple of very faint hairline cracks which are barely visible unless viewed through a magnifying loupe.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
