1917 Waltham hunter watch for Thomas Russell
1917 Waltham full hunter pocket watch for Thomas Russell.
The watch has a seven-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is the Marquis grade but was re-named Tempus for Thomas Russell, their logo included the wording Tempus Fugit. The movement is signed American Waltham USA, Tempus and it has the serial number 21,772,959 which dates it back to around 1917. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Russell model from the Illinois Watch Case Company. The stepped design is a feature often seen on Thomas Russell cases. The case is in very nice condition.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front. Inside there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.
The dial is signed with the Thomas Russell winged wheel logo together with Waltham USA. Thomas Russell was a well respected business having achieved a Royal Warrant as watch and antique clock makers to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The dial has some hairline cracks but they are fairly short and very faint, quite difficult to see with the naked eye. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
