18thc Est.(1750-70) Oil Portrait Painting of a lady wearing a satin blue bodice with cream silk bow.
The attractive sitter, expensively dressed and wearing pearls, the favourite jewel of the period, and a pink rose.
She wears the rose pinned close to her heart and her expression is pensive. In addition to being fashionable, pearls were a symbol of purity, and the red rose symbolised love. Flowers in general also serve as a reminder of the rapid passing of time - that youth, and indeed life, is a fleeting thing. It seems likely that this charming portrait was painted for a lover...perhaps in anticipation of a marriage.

Returns are accepted within 14 days of receipt if the item is found to have been misdescribed and the purchaser may be liable for the return costs subject to reasons for return.
Returns authorisation should be requested by sending an e-mail before posting.
