18th Century Whale Bone Sailors Fid, c1780
Late 18th century sailors Fid,c1780. A Fid is a traditional tool used by sailors to work with canvas and rope. This example is made from bone, almost certainly whale bone ,it is beautifully crafted and has acquired great colour/patina following years of use. This is a rare survivor and overall condition is good with no obvious defects.
