An 18th cent. stipple engraving br Bartolozzi printed in colours.The sitter is Lady Elizabeth Foster who became close friends with Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire and went to live with her and the Duke in Devonshire house as a menage a trois for 25 years.After Georgiana's death she married the Duke and became Duchess of Devonshire.
The print was once offered for sale by Christie's sometime before the First World War.Stencil mark and printed catalogue entry on rear of frame.
J & W Vokins were at 10,King Street between 1894 and 1910.
