18th Cen Ships Salt Beef Barrel, Oak and Brass Tub
18th Century Ships Salt Beef Barrel, Oak and Brass Ships Storage Tub
A survivor from the 18th Century, this excellent piece would have been used for storing “Salt Beef” the only way at this time that meat could be stored for life at sea
The Barrel has a conical oval shape, is is coopered in Oak with brass bands, some of which have lost their colour due to the corrosive effect of the sea air, the heavy brass hinges have an X shape they are very thick and still work well
The barrel is in good condition considering its age, there has been an extra piece of wood added to the bottom to strengthen it otherwise it is in original condition, and has all its brass Hinges, bands, hooks and hasp
Very rare, in good attractive used condition, this piece will adorn any room with a Seafaring Theme, it is 29” high and 27” wide and 22” across
