18ct gold case number 1880.
Hallmarked with the J W Benson sponsor's/maker's mark.
Insignia of a hand holding a crown engraved on the back with the motto "Vertutis Gloria Merces" which translates to " Glory, the reward of virtue".
Approximate dimensions: diameter 50.2mm, weight 113.1g.
The front cover has to be helped to open when the winder is pressed as the spring has lost all its strength.
To set the hands, press in the winder on the edge of the case at four o'clock and turn the winder.
There is a little loss to the enamel on the chapter ring but no other loss so the numerals are clear as is the rest of the chapter ring.
There are surface marks to the case associated with normal use and age.
