1870's Wales Mourning Hair Locket & CDV Set

For the vintage photography collector: Llandudno is a seaside resort in Conwy County Borough, Wales on the Creuddyn peninsula, which protrudes into the Irish Sea. In 1854, the opening of the town’s first hotel, which was seaside, and brought photography, tourists and the railways to this Welsh area.
This is a beautiful set of Victorian mourning hair under glass, and a CDV photograph of a gentleman who appears in his sixties, his hair colour and texture concurrent with that found mounted on puple under glass. He wears a wonderful polka dot silk cravat at his neck. The photo and hair mount are trimmed from CDV photos to nicely fit into 2 thin gold frames with early convex glass. They were found together in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, England.
There is no marking except the letter "B" in pencil on the reverse of the photograph. We did not disassemble them in any way, and are sold just as found. We can see the CDV photo was taken by "T. Edge" by his printed photographer's advertising backmark on reverse, which prompted us to do some research.
Victoria photographer Thomas Edge 1820-1900 was born in Preston, Lancashire. He originally worked with the London Stereoscopic Company documenting images of the beauty and landscapes and history of Britain. He came to Llandudno for the tourist trade and set up his photography studio there. He was known to have photographed the rich and famous, from Royalty to many important holiday visitors passing through. He died at age 80, and is buried at Deganwy in the Llanrhos churchyard, Wales.
This is just a rare, unusual and beautiful set, most likely taken out of a house. They were found carefully wrapped in old 1970's ragged newspaper. It is assumed they were taken out of a broken locket of the era. The photo of the gentleman is somewhat light in tone. We do wish we knew more. It is wild to think that here we have an ancestor's authentic 1870's DNA!
