17th Century Leather Child's Shoe Witchcraft
1 of 6
Great little piece of history this one. Child's leather shoe circa 17th century and reputedly found while demolishing an old house in Keighley west Yorkshire.
Single shoes especially children's were placed in roofs, fireplaces, chimney breasts and under floor boards throughout Europe.
The main consensus why these were placed in buildings is to ward off evil spirits, ghost's and witches .
The belief is, a witch was attracted to the smell of a shoe, each to their own I suppose. Then once in the building they felt trapped and couldn't reverse out. What happened after that ? Size 10cm long x4cm x3.5cm high.
