17th Century Caned Walnut Armchair. U532 Charles Armchair Walnut %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Late 17th century Charles Ⅱ caned armchair. This style of antique furniture, lighter and more decorative than the oak regional tradition of that time, was introduced to the British Isles with the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. This example in walnut is typical of the style. The caned back has a pierced and carved frame flanked by barley twist supports. A cresting rail and the front stretcher are profusely carved, and other rails have barley twist turnings. The caning, not the original, is in perfect condition. Circa 1680
Height: 120cm (47")
