12" Newton Celestial Globe on Stand
A 12" Celestial Globe mounted on a walnut stand with turned legs and stretchers. The globe, contained in a brass meridian circle, is marked "Newtons New and Improved on which all the stars and nebulae and clusters contained in the extensive catalogue of the late F Wollaston FRS are accurately laid in their right ascensions and declina having been readjusted for for the year 1820 by W Newton".
Francis Wollaston FRS (1762-1823) was a philosopher and Jacksonian professor at The University of Cambridge.
The height of the globe on its stand is 18.5" (47 cm) and the diameter is 17" (43 cm) All items are sold with a 14 day money back guarantee.
