This is a fine quality antique Welsh Georgian oak inlaid bread, cheese and food cupboard, also known as a cwpwrdd Bara Caws, attributable to Talwrn, Anglesey, North Wales, circa 1810, in excellent condition. The top section incorporates a small protruding moulded cornice, above a rail decorated with mahogany & ebony dot-and-diamond inlay. This style of decorative inlay was typical of the Talwrn village in Anglesey, North Wales. Below, the top cupboard space incorporates moulded panel doors, with central pierced fretwork panels (to originally allow air flow for food storage) and the original brass round knobs and mahogany inlaid keyhole escutcheons. The right-hand door retains the original working lock, with working key, whilst the left-hand door features the original wooden rotating lever and a faux keyhole. The base section boasts further mahogany, ebony & satinwood dot-and-diamond inlay to the frame. The top of the base comprises a pair of drawers, with cock beaded fronts. They are pine lined, hand dovetailed and boast their original brass round knobs and kite shaped mahogany inlaid keyhole escutcheons. The right-hand drawer also boasts its original working lock, with working key, with the left-hand drawer having a faux keyhole. The bottom of the base section comprises a second cupboard space enclosed by two inset panelled doors. The right-hand door incorporates a steel working lock, with working key, with the left-hand door featuring a faux keyhole and the original wooden rotating lever. Both doors display kite shaped inlaid mahogany keyhole surrounds and retain their original brass round knobs. The cupboard space to the top section offers three-tier storage, having two shelves, while the cupboard space to the base section offers two-tier storage, having a central shelf. The cupboard sits on its original bracket feet. The cupboard would be an attractive addition to any kitchen or collectors’ piece, as it is not only elegant, but also provides a wealth of storage space. The item dismantles into two sections for ease of transport and access into the home.
