Very Rare Toilet Mirror by James Mein rare  William IV toilet mirror %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1830, very rare William IV toilet mirror by James Mein of Kelso. The circular mirror, with original plate in a crossbanded frame, is supported on an unusual half moon frame which is tapered and has carved finials on the ends. Below the mirror is a large platform base with chamfered edges, and all stands on 4 stylised bun feet. The underside has the original trade label which reads ‘J.A. Mein cabinet maker and upholsters, Roxburgh Street, Kelso’ and has some more information in small print – please lift up the mirror to view. Mein of Kelso was the foremost provincial Scottish cabinet maker in the Scottish Borders, and one of his most famous commissions was to help furnish Floors castle, home of the Duke of Roxburgh.
