A gorgeous, tiny Scandinavian birch-wood storage box or casket. This box will date to very early 1800. Whilst many later boxes are available, one as early as this and in such condition is rare.
It displays remnants of it's original paintwork, no-doubt a beautifully decorated little box in it’s day. It has it's original birch root stringing to the finger laps’ all still in sound condition. The top pine panel has traces of the original greens, orange & red paintwork typical colours of the age, the base panel having the original owners initials.
The lid fitting perfectly. The box has a smooth hard finish & good patina. A very tactile little piece of folk art.
There is some minor sign of early infestation which, as a matter of course has been treated.
