Superb High Backed Victorian Carved Rosewood Chair
An attractive upholstered chair. We date the chair to the mid 19th century.
The chair sits on two decoratively carved cabriole legs at the front and two splayed legs at the rear, all on their original gilted castors.
The high backrest has a lovely carved frame with carvings below the seat pad and on the legs. The backrest and seat pad are upholstered with a floral tapestry in olive, cream, blue and reds.
The chair has an overall height of 49" (125cm), an overall width of 22.5" (57cm), an overall depth of 26" (66cm), a backrest height of 34" (87cm), a seat height of 15" (38cm), a seat width of 21" (54cm) and a seat depth of 20" (51cm).
The chair remains in a good usable condition with surface marks commensurate with age and usage. The material has some wear primarily to the seat pad which includes a small rip at the front and the rear of the chair has a rip to the fabric at the bottom as can be seen in the pictures.
This remains a very stylish and elegant armchair. It is very comfortable to sit on and will continue to provide rest and relaxation for many years to come.
