Good Aesthetic Period Nursing / Dressing Chair
A Gorgeous Antique Ebonised & Upholstered Nursing / Salon / Dressing Chair
A high quality example of a late Victorian nursing chair, dating to around the second half of the 19th century.
The black, ebonised, wooden frame beautifully carved and shaped, with exposed fluted supports to each side and lovely incised detail highlighted in an old, soft gold.
The seat and buttoned back reupholstered to a very high standard and in a most tasteful, understated cloth of neutral palette.
The design and style of this chair indicate it is a piece from the Aesthetic period - a time that saw high quality manufacturing practices and designs which have gone on to stand the test of time and which now fit well into traditional or contemporary interiors alike.
Nursing chairs, such as this, look great in hallways or can be employed in the living space or bedroom as occasional chairs. An ideal place to sit when putting shoes on or a place to leave cloths draped or folded.
This one is an absolute beauty and nicely detailed, with exposed, fluted columns, nicely shaped rear legs, turned front supports with greek key detailing and finally, the whole sitting on the original brass castors.
If you are in the market for a decent chair like this you are spoiled for choice. This one isn't the cheapest on offer, but I do genuinely believe it is one of the nicest you will ever find and priced lower than others of inferior quality and design.
Please note 'Condition' below ahead of purchase, which describes this aspect in detail.
Alternatively, UK shipping (excluding Islands, Highlands, Ireland or remote areas is all included in the price.

Structurally sound. Clean. Attractive. Ready to go straight into service.
Good, slightly worn patina to the ebonised surfaces, with some rubbing to the paint (especially to the leading edges of the front legs), minor knocks, wear and blemishes commensurate with use. Old chip away to upper edge.
Some signs of bubbling or boiling to the paint beneath the outermost black surface in places - with slight inconsistencies in the ebonised surface. These quirks do not bother me and are part and parcel of the history of the piece.
