Sunday stick, Silver, London 1905. Golfing interest.
A Silver handled Sunday stick. London 1905.
A lovely tactile walking stick shaped as a golf putter and probably used for putting practice when walking out on a Sunday. I believe in some areas the game of golf was or is banned on a Sunday, and this stick was used, probably by an avid golfer, to avoid the ban.
It is hallmarked for London 1905, by the silversmith whose initials are either EL or BL.
The condition is “well used” as can be seen in the photographs, with dints to the silver following many pretend Ryder Cup victories. The bamboo design shaft is in good condition as is the ferrule.
It is 88 centimeters or 34.5 inches long.
