Renaissance Style 19thC Oak Door Panel
The solid oak renaissance style panel having hand-carved relief vine leaf sprays and grapes in three sections, the central cartouche depicting a bust of a lady in period continental dress flanked by a pair of green man foliage masks, the top panel with scrolls.
The condition is largely good with a sound overall colour and patination, with only two small areas of loss to the carving. There is an iron sprung coiled catch plate to the reverse, which would have acted as a locking mechanism when the door was in operation and serves to help date the piece.
This door is most likely from a large piece of antique furniture, and with the central motif being a mortal female, the other door may have featured a male partner thus making a marital union.
A charming piece of renaissance fashioned oak, suitable for wall display, incorporating into a piece of furniture, or to add an architectural accent to a room.
