RARE QUEEN ANNE TORTOISESHELL SNUFF BOX c1702
A RARE QUEEN ANNE OVAL TORTOISESHELL & SILVER SNUFF BOX c1702
With radiating fluted decoration and silver pique work around the hinged cover. Silver banding and two oval plaques, one of the hinged cover engraved George Witherde 1709. The other silver plaque on the base is vacant. Silver external hinge and metal internal hinged.
Measures approx. 9.5cm x 7.5cm x 3cm.
Despite being over 300 hundred years old this is in amazing condition. Hinge still works perfectly fine and snaps shut as it always did. Tortoiseshell is overall in excellent condition with just two hairlines which are virtually invisible to the naked eye. One can just be seen in image 5 on the right hand side (about 1cm long), which does not go through the thickness of the shell. The other is inside the hinged cover and again does not go through the shell.
