Pair of Oils on Canvas Allegorical Figures Michael italian 19th oil
This is a good pair of Italian oil paintings attributed to Michaelangelo Maestri (act. 1802-1812) which show allegorical figures in oval frames. Maestri was an Italian artist who died in Rome in 1812. His finest compositions are based on motifs from antique frescos discovered in Pompeii and Herculaneum and from designs by Raphael or his pupil Giulio Romano. His work very popular and often purchased by European travellers during their grand tour.
The paintings date from the very early 19th century and are in good order. They have at some point been hung at the Dorchester according to information verso. They also have an Italian label, 'Carlo La Barbera' of Naples which may have been a gallery or framer and they measure 40 cms by 34 cms including the frames.
