A charming oil on canvas interior scene by Mabel M Thompson. The painting depicts a beautifully arranged chair and table with flowering shrub in an attic room. The technique is very impressionistic in style with a use of thick impasto paint. The work is signed to the lower left and does retain an exhibition label on the reverse. Mabel Mary Thompson nee Hobbs was born in 1884 and died in 1958, she exhibited with the Kettering and District Art Society, one of the oldest art societies in the country between 1932 and 1943. The work retains the original period painted frame which is in good condition. The painting is in good untouched condition with some minor undulation in the canvas where it has been laid on the backing board. The whole has a great light period look and is ready to hang. C.1930.
