Guido Odierna 1913-1991 Oil On Canvas Capri Coast

1 of 6
We are pleased to offer for sale this lovely seascape oil on canvas by the Italian artist GUIDO ODIERNA, who has signed the painting in full in the lower right hand corner. The painting is untitled, but we think depicts the rocky coast of Capri, as we have seen a similar scene which was titled Capri, his favourite subject matter. The artist is a master at portraying the saphire blues and greens of the sea around his home.
GUIDO ODIERNA 1913-1991, was born on 13th November 1913 on Capri, an island off the Neapolitan coast in Italy. He studied at the Academy around the late 1920s, early 1930s and later under Michele Federico (1834-1966). He also studied in the studio of Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov (1876-1945), a Russian artist who lived on Capri for a short while and visited the island annually.
He lived and worked at his studio on Capri at Via Certosa 19 and also maintained a studio and gallery in Rome at Via Ezio 24, where he also represented other artists.
During his lifetime he had 35 solo exhibitions in Italy, including Rome, Milan, Turn, Genoa and Trieste and group exhibitions in France and the US.
He painted oils of the seas around Capri, the Southern Italian coast, and Venice, as well as some still life paintings, but the sea, in all its moods, was his real love, as evinced by this painting. His paintings can achieve high prices, with a lot of his work being on the market in the US.
He was a prolific artist and his many auction results are available on artprice.com (413 listings), findartinfo.com (174), arcadja.com (333) and artnet.com (126).
The painting is presented in a new 2 3/4" 'driftwood' wooden frame to echo the colour of the cliffs. It will be supplied wired with new brass hangers, brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 26 1/2" x 19 1/2" - 67.25cm x 49.5cm
Frame size: 32" x 25" - 81.25cm x 63.5cm
Medium: Oils on canvas
Condition: Excellent condition. There are no repairs, craquelure or paint loss. The canvas is clean and taut. The frame is new.
