A Stunning Mid-Century 'Danish Modern' Era Desk (or Dining Table?!) & a Matching Cabinet
A very impressive and imposing executive desk / table and matching wheeled cabinet, made by Dyrlund (of Denmark) and dating to around the late 1960's - 1970's.
The desk is inset with three narrow drawers and still contains the removable desk tidy / pen tray.
Super-elegant and beautifully styled throughout with 'rolled' ends and narrow drawer pulls, coupled with show-stopping book-matched wood veneers, displaying rich and deeply coloured grain.
The colour benefits from consistent tone throughout with little fading.
It has been photographed just as it arrived from a very fine Cotswold property, but I suspect the surface could be deepened and made even more lustrous with a careful polish, if desired.
Although this piece was designed as a desk, it would in fact make a stunning dining table. It is the correct height and proportions to seat several people with ease and the narrow drawers could be used to store cutlery and place mats.
Supplied with a matching filing cabinet (rare) which again is in very good and clean condition.
Also included is the original back board and mounting brackets, (not shown). However this is not really a necessary feature and I think the desk looks more elegant without it. Certainly it would not be needed if the item was employed as a dining table.
All in all, a sensational find, hard to come by in this condition with such even and consistent colour. There are some minor surface marks and faults (see below), but these are forgivable on such a vast piece of antique furniture that has seen some 50 years of use. It is a credit to its former keeper. The table: 200 cms wide x 95 cms deep x 72.5 cms high.
Condition -
Overall very good for age. The desk has received approx 50 years careful use. There are some minor surface marks in places and also a dent / knock to one corner. Two minor / pale ring marks (barely noticeable). A slight line / fracture to the veneer on the right hand drawer. A few surface scratches to the upper surface (would easily disappear with a light polish) and also a knock to the one corner but could be rectified with ease.
