If only chocolates still came in boxes like this.

This is a wonderful chocolate box decorated to the top with “Arthurian” legends. On the top of the box it says that it was designed specially for S Sainsbury 136 Regent Street W Estd 1839.

The founder of the company S Sainsbury was from Bath, they sold expensive French chocolates, syrups and lavender water.

The box was Size D, label to the base. In the lid is a red paper seal which says 171 Bond Street, late of regent street.

I looks as it it would have had two layers as there is still a small blue ribbon attached to the inside which would allow the top layer to be lifted up.

Date wise early 20th century very arts and crafts in design.

It is in pretty good used antique condition, after all it is only cardboard.
