c.1830 Black Painted Pine Housekeepers Cupboard
The generously proportioned black painted pine carcass standing at seven feet, the original painted finish now distressed commensurate with age, having a corniced top and two door cupboard showing brass lion mask handles adorned with gothic arches enclosing a rust painted arrangement of seven shelves above two short and two long drawers, the upper section flanked by carved ornament, the draws displaying the original turned knob handles, the whole standing on bulbous turned peg feet, and surviving in original condition from the late Regency to early Victorian period.
The cupboard shows some rather attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, but the whole is superbly original order and the drawers run smooth with the carcass structurally sound. The piece has undergone some internal structural work to ensure it is in fit and useable order, though this aside, it remains untouched. There is some replacement mouldings to the front arch tips. The knobs are all original aside from the two small brass lion mask knobs to the doors which are of the correct period but not original to the piece. Both cupboard doors have their original working locks and a key is provided.
A very dramatic, rather gothic inspired piece of sizeable Victorian housekeeping antique furniture that demands ones attention and sure enough, it gets it.
